Post-colonial Challenges to the Spectacle of Black Music Culture
摘要
This chapter is entitled “Post-colonial Challenges to the Spectacle of Black Music Culture”. The appeal to the spectacle in respect to Black music cultures and its implications for the construction of risk evaluation requires an additionally nuanced appreciation of agency, subjectivity and identity. Why, given our popular knowledge of algorithmic capitalism and the commercialisation of petitions, would individuals invest their human capital in the digital labour production of capitalistic metrics for the survey industry? Such insights are axiomatic to the methodological logic of the unstructured interview and hence the chapter details interviews conducted online using qualitative technique, with several campaigners involved in the community-led online campaign entitled Save Brixton Academy. Central objective of the qualitative interviews was to focus on the structuration of agency and in so doing ascertain the subjective meaning making that motivated campaigning activities directed at reinstituting the O2 Academy Brixton as a music venue.
