Development and Characterization of Biodegradable Bioplastics Using Agricultural Waste

The environmental impact of petroleum-based plastic has had far-reaching repercussions for human health, global warming, and natural flora and fauna, particularly in the seas and marine life. The inability of synthetic plastics to biodegrade is the fundamental cause of environmental persistence. Comprehensive studies show that plastic remains in the environment for 20 to 50 years after being disposed of in various waste disposal systems. The global demand for bioplastics as a substitute for traditional plastics has increased due to their nontoxicity, biocompatibility, renewability, and biodegradability properties. This book chapter focuses on the possibilities for sustainable and eco-friendly bioplastic materials by investigating several agricultural waste sources. The thorough evaluation of different methods and materials gives significant insights for academics, scientists, and industry experts seeking to contribute to the expanding area of green materials. As we seek environmentally conscious solutions, using agricultural waste in bioplastics appears to be a viable option for lowering dependency on conventional plastics and building a more sustainable future.
