Development and Characterization of Biodegradable Bioplastic Using Food Waste Such as Corn Starch

摘要

The fabrication and characterization of biodegradable corn starch bioplastics made from food waste are reviewed in this chapter. The study uses a precise methodology that includes the extraction and processing of bioplastics made from corn starch polymer, formulation blends, and thorough examination of the mechanical, thermal, and biodegradability characteristics of the starch bioplastic materials. The evaluation shows that the produced bioplastics have mechanical qualities that are promising, with tensile strength and elastic modulus that are on the same level with those of conventional plastics. While thermal analysis of the bioplastic is examined under a predefined temperature profile, the biodegradability assessment also emphasizes the eco-friendliness of bioplastics, highlighting their potential as a long-term replacement for plastics derived from petroleum. This review work presents a biodegradable bioplastic formulation using corn starch, adding to the expanding body of knowledge on sustainable materials. The findings and recommendations provide a workable solution to the global plastic crisis and have implications for industries looking for environmentally friendly alternatives.
