Role of Microbes in Soil Food Webs and Vegetation Development

Soil ecosystems are complex networks of interspecific relationships linking a vast array of organisms; microbes are central to the process of nutrient cycling, decomposition of organic matter, and plant-microbe associations. Microbiome as a line of scientific study has been advancing in the context of the last several decades and is currently recognized by both the scientific community and the public. Contrary to expectations, despite the increased interest in the topic across disciplinary boundaries, there is still no consensus definition of the word “microbiome.” The distribution, functions, and connections of soil microorganisms throughout the soil food chain, as well as their influence on plant growth, yield, and ecosystem stability, are all covered in this work. The chapter also examines how microbial populations influence and govern nutrient dynamics, soil structure, and plant-microbe interactions that govern plant succession and dissemination. Recent developments in ecological modelling and molecular biology demonstrate the abundance and diversity of soil microorganisms. A thorough understanding of these microbial processes is necessary to support healthy ecosystems and land rehabilitation techniques.
