摘要

The soil microbiome plays a crucial role in maintaining agricultural productivity and plant health, offering promising avenues for sustainable disease management using microbial biocontrol agents. This chapter explores the potential of beneficial microorganisms, such as Bacillus thuringiensis, Trichoderma spp., and microbial volatile organic compounds (MVOCs), in controlling plant pathogens. These biocontrol agents operate through various mechanisms, including antibiosis, competition, parasitism, and the induction of systemic resistance, providing an environmentally friendly alternative to chemical pesticides. We review the current understanding of the interactions between soil microorganisms and plant pathogens, highlighting the efficacy and application of microbial biocontrol agents in diverse agricultural settings. The study also addresses the challenges associated with the consistency, formulation, and field application of these agents, proposing future research directions to optimize their use. By integrating microbial biocontrol agents into sustainable agricultural practices, it is possible to reduce reliance on chemical inputs, enhance soil health, and improve crop resilience. This article underscores the need for interdisciplinary collaboration, regulatory support, and farmer education to facilitate the adoption of microbial biocontrol strategies, ultimately contributing to sustainable agriculture and food security.
