Hydrogen is emerging as an important energy option simultaneously in many regions of the world. This chapter briefly summarises diverse global perspectives and policies, particularly those in North America and Europe (the United Kingdom and the European Union). It is suggested that hydrogen for heavy duty road transport might emerge first in North America. Hydrogen for use in industrial processes (possibly linking to domestic heating) might emerge first in the UK.
