The Intertwined Impact of Economics, Eugenic Policy, and Immigration Restrictions

  • Sana Loue

摘要

This chapter recounts the circumstances surrounding the immigration from Poland of Moische, Gitla, and Rivka, who became known in the USA, respectively, as Morris, Gussie, and Ruth. The chapter explores the basis of Morris’ claim to status as a single male when he immigrated and the immigration policy that may have influenced his decision. The chapter explores shifts in family members’ identities following their immigration to the USA and the challenges that they faced both in their relationships with each other and in their encounter with poverty.
