Food Insecurity in Humanitarian Assistance

  • Taylor Stone

摘要

Nutrition is one of the foundations of health. Food insecurity leads to malnutrition, which impacts not only physical health but mental health as well. This is especially evident in populations facing humanitarian crises. There were over 35 million refugees in the year 2022 and this number continues to rise with natural disasters, global inflation, and various conflicts worldwide. Food insecurity exists universally, affecting low- and high-income countries. Refugees encounter additional complexities in nutrition not only due to humanitarian crises but also because of various systemic factors in their new countries. The purpose of this chapter is to provide insight on the many obstacles that refugees face regarding food security, and to promote possible solutions to improve health outcomes for these populations globally.
