Haiti: Understanding Humanitarian Assistance in Conflict

  • Juliet Winther

摘要

Haiti’s ongoing humanitarian crisis is marked by severe political instability, economic decline, and recurrent natural disasters. This paper works to understand the multifaceted nature of the situation in Haiti, including its historical context, current socio-economic and health challenges, and the impact of violence and human rights violations. Despite significant international aid, the crisis has worsened due to persistent gang violence, extreme poverty, and failing infrastructure. This paper further explores the effectiveness of humanitarian responses, such as the influence of the Sphere Handbook’s standards and community engagement practices, while highlighting the limitations and ethical concerns faced by aid organizations. Understanding the crisis in Haiti can lead to further enhancing security measures for humanitarian workers, an increase in funding, and improving community resilience. This paper highlights the urgent need for a coordinated, comprehensive approach to address both immediate needs and long-term recovery in Haiti.
