Organisational Challenges, Risks, and Success Factors When Implementing Agile Methodologies Post Covid-19
摘要
The Agile Manifesto was launched in 2001 and brought a new approach to project management for software development projects. Since then, the Agile methodology has grown in popularity. Organisations are now expanding the use of agile beyond software development projects and into other business areas as they seek to create value more quickly, work more closely with customers, and better deal with complexity and changing requirements. The Agile Manifesto was designed around people working closely together in co-located teams with a focus on face-to-face communication. This contrasts with a post COVID-19 workplace which will likely see many employees continue to work remotely, making face-to-face communication and people working closely together more difficult. Research pre pandemic found that the adoption of agile practices can be difficult and problematic. Studies and best practices on how to implement and use agile in the context of remote work post pandemic are rare. This paper, through literature review, has identified several new challenges and critical success factors when implementing agile with a remote workforce. The findings include the differing impacts and effects on the remote workforce when they are forced to work from home, as opposed to those that willingly choose to work remotely. These findings contribute towards a better understanding of the various challenges and risks organisations need to address when implementing agile with a remote workforce. If these challenges and risks are addressed successfully, it will have a positive impact on agile implementation success rates.
