Islamic Fashion and Lifestyle on Social Media as a Teaching Topic in Islamic Religious Education
摘要
This chapter explores the phenomenon of Islamic fashion and lifestyle in the realm of social media from the pedagogical point of view, which is significant for Islamic religious education. It addresses the complexities faced by Muslim youth in the search for exploring their religious identity in Western societies, including the importance of educational support for youth during this process. The chapter further sheds light on the commercialization of Islam through fashion and beauty products promoted by Muslim influencers and examines their impact on religious understanding and social perception. Using selected examples of Muslim influencers, the article illustrates the varying extent of religious references in social media content and their impact on religious identity and engagement among youth. The transfer to educational practice underlines the importance of understanding the digital environment and the role models it presents to students while advocating a critical examination of commercialized religiosity in education. In the conclusion, the chapter emphasizes the primary educational goal of inner upliftment and personality development, which go beyond material goals. It calls for a differentiated approach to tackle the complexity of commercialized religiosity and to promote holistic educational experiences that support both the ethical engagement and spiritual growth of young people.
