Thinking Ahead About Online L2 Classroom Practice and Future Research

This final chapter presents a brief synthesis of all chapters of the book with regard to its contribution to field of online ISLA and restates the significance of synchronous online learner engagement (SOLE) for L2 learning within synchronous online L2 classrooms. The chapter also considers the implications and applications for both practice and research on online L2 learner engagement. The chapter then presents some suggestions regarding directions for future research on online L2 learner engagement, focusing specifically on the theoretical, methodological, and pedagogical research-practice nexus. In the final section, various technological tools used to enhance online learner engagement are presented for teachers’ reference.
