GardenWords – A Garden Watering AR Game for Learning Vocabulary Using Speech
摘要
Foreign language learning is a course usually starting from a young age, with students frequently showing difficulties concentrating in classrooms. The flipped classroom is a Blended learning tool employable for language learning with few applications in speaking and vocabulary lessons. This study explores the integration of Augmented Reality (AR) technology with gamified and flipped classroom approaches in foreign language alphabet and vocabulary learning, focusing on the English language. Drawing inspiration from the Garden-based learning paradigm, a mobile AR serious game called GardenWords was developed to engage learners in interactive language learning experiences. The game combines gamification, flipped classroom, and immersive AR technology to enhance motivation and engagement among learners. This study investigates the impact of AR and the Garden-based metaphor with flipped classrooms on learners’ motivation engagement and learning outcomes in foreign language learning. The results of the serious game GardenWords highlight the potential to enhance foreign language learning experiences. Future work will evaluate the application’s effectiveness with primary school students upon finalizing the final components of the game.
