GIS and IoT-Enabled Waste Management System for Smart Cities: An Interconnection Architecture Proposal

The paper presents a proposal for a system architecture model that enables a waste disposal management system for smart cities using GIS (Geographic Information System) and IoT (Internet of Things) devices focusing on mutual interconnection. The proposal of the overall model is presented, including the key components with a detailed explanation of the individual specifications as well as the interconnection model including the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) system to provide information for use in Management Information Systems (MIS) and Business Intelligence (BI) systems. The paper also describes the implementation of one part of the proposed model in the City of Zenica, Bosnia and Herzegovina.
