Hosting Capacities in Distribution Network Considering Harmonic Emissions

PV power plant's increased penetration in distribution networks can cause power quality issues such as flicker and harmonic distortion. For the creation of the model and the analysis of the hosting capacities, the software DigSILENT PowerFactory was utilized. Harmonic distortion occurs when deviation is detected of the current and even voltage waveforms from their ideal sinusoidal shape, which can result in additional losses, overheating, resonance, and malfunction of sensitive equipment. This project aims to check the hosting capacities of the grid when connecting a new PV power plant to it and considering constraints of higher harmonics of current. The project will tackle the issues of PV generation's variability and uncertainty. The project will test a case study of the simulation of an actual distribution network to demonstrate the effectiveness as well as the applicability of different methods of fixing the problem at hand.
