Method 5S/6S in Practice – Case Study of Lean Manufacturing Six Sigma Application in Working Conditions of Wood Processing Company

Method 5S originated in the Japanese auto industry, which prescribes the manner of the organization of working space, for example from the work table to the production halls. The aim is to achieve efficient work in an efficiently organized space. Component methods are (not very faithful to the original Japanese): sorting, setting in order, cleaning, standardizing, and sustaining. In large production, and service companies is very important 5S method, because due to the abundance of objects and materials can create a big mess, and thus the loss or expense. Kaizen 5S tools are used in the organization of workspace, and the very often mentioned concepts extend to the 6S approach that adds to the security aspect. This article provides a proposal for a set of approaches that are the basis for the development and application of the principles of Lean Manufacturing Six Sigma concepts. A special focus is given to the 5S/6S method of applying Lean Manufacturing Six Sigma concepts in specific working conditions of wood-processing companies from Bosnia and Herzegovina.
