Application of Augmented Reality in Geovisualization
摘要
This paper explores the pivotal role of augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) in modern information technology. While virtual reality transports users to entirely digital environments, augmented reality enriches the physical world with virtual elements. The expansion of mobile and smart devices has significantly accelerated the development and adoption of these technologies. Augmented reality emerges as a promising tool to enhance data visualization and user engagement within this context. Geovisualization presents spatial data in an intuitive and accessible manner. The geovisualization process encompasses various stages, from conceptualization to the final visualization, with ongoing efforts toward standardization. This paper focuses not only on the cartographic principles of the mentioned process but also on the technical issues of visualization of 3D data. The primary objective is the development of an augmented reality application showcasing a segment of Zagreb city. By employing augmented reality within geovisualization, the study seeks to clarify its potential applications and benefits, especially in enriching user experiences and expanding possibilities in spatial data presentation.
