Enhancing Infrastructure Management: A Deep Dive into Mobile Laser Scanning and Point Cloud Classification
摘要
Spatial data collection procedures are getting faster, with better accuracy and precision. Likewise, data processing is developing and becoming more automated and easier. There are plenty of modern surveying technologies that are used for these purposes. One that we can point out is laser scanning technology. When it comes to road inspections, in most cases, mobile laser scanning technology is used. The objective of this paper is to present the possibilities and benefits of the mentioned technology, with an emphasis on the classification of derived data. In the context of roads, point cloud classification involves categorizing individual points into meaningful classes such as road surfaces, curbs, signs, and vegetation. This classification is essential for accurate road mapping, as it enables the extraction of specific features and details necessary for navigation and infrastructure management. The paper shows the state-of-the-art classification techniques and presents some results with 2 different software usage.
