SAmpSONS Tool: Simulating Material Flows in the Sarajevo Sewer System for Investment Preassessment and Reconstruction

摘要

There are a variety of simulation and visualization tools used to assess improvements in sanitation systems. One of the tools is SAmpSONS, which is freely available. It was applied to the rather complex sanitary system of Sarajevo. The total length of the main collectors of a combined sewer system is 49.61 km, with diameters in the range of 300 mm to 1,800 mm. The aim is to assess the impact of the reconstruction of the sewage system, from the current state to the planning period with 600,000 inhabitants connected to the system. The other 4 scenarios successively represent the gradual reconstruction and upgrading of the sewage system, up to the maximum capacity of the plant. For simulation, most of the given parameters are adopted as default parameters. Certain specific input data, which differ significantly from area to area, are specially calculated and used in the application. For Sarajevo, the calculated specific amount of wastewater for hydraulic analysis is 167 l/inh/day. It is assumed that 85% of drinking water enters the sewer system as wastewater. The rate of connection to the sewerage network is 90% and the amount of infiltrated water is 0.6 l/s/km. The ratio between the hourly flow and the average daily flow is 2.24. The results showed a significant reduction in the pollution of the recipient (river) according to various parameters of water quality, concerning the number of connected inhabitants.
