摘要

The mechanism of the self-organization of spatial agglomeration patterns in a long-narrow economy is elucidated in light of an analogy to a racetrack economy. A spatial period-doubling bifurcation cascade in the racetrack economy characterizes the transition of spatial agglomerations in the long-narrow economy. Formulas for break points in an economic geography model of the racetrack economy are developed to predict the occurrence of spatial period doubling in the long-narrow economy. There are several prerequisites: Chap. 8 provides the analytical analysis of break points, and Chaps. 3 and 9 cover the bifurcation of the racetrack economy.
