Trends of Hardiness Research in Business Management: A Bibliometric Study

Hardiness, a stress resileient personality disposition, has gained increasing attention across various research disciplines since its introduction.Over the years, significant strides have been made in understanding its theoretical framework, training interventions and assessment methods. However, a comprehensive overview of the literature remains missing. This study aims to address this gap by offering one of the first holistic reviews of existing hardiness research, with a focus on its evolution within the field of business management, using bibliometric analysis to track its development. A sample of 70 publications was obtained from the Scopus database that was published between 1986 and 2023 to investigate research trends in hardiness. Applying the citation, co-citation and bibliographic coupling techniques to the corpus provides useful insights to the thematic and intellectual structure and overall research landscape of hardiness in the field of business management. The visualization and network analysis using the VOSviewer uncovers three foundational clusters and six thematic clusters that further adds on to the uniqueness of this study. The results indicate current state of hardiness study in business management that aids in outlining future research directions in this field.
