Preliminaries: Preorders, Topologies, Axiomatizations of Set Theory

We recall basic facts on topologies and preorders which will be needed all over the book. On a first reading the reader may skip this chapter and come back when some of the notions introduced here are used in other parts of the book. We also warn the reader that some of the exercises of this chapter assume familiarity with standard concepts which are introduced in later chapters.
