  • Sameena Moulana Manzil Siddique

摘要

This article critically analyses the impact of privatisation in the waste management sector within the framework of the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and its implications for neocolonialism. Through the critiques of neoliberal capitalism and the commodification of environmental services, the article traces the role of international organisations in advocating privatisation in the terrain of waste management policy, and its consequent impacts on both society and environment. Based on case studies from Kerala, India, the article also sheds light on how efforts at privatisation have created a predicament including the complexities and failures of privatisation efforts, highlighting the issues of environmental injustice. The study demands the need for context-specific approaches, community engagement and government oversight to address the multidimensional challenges of waste management effectively.
