In Colombia, there are the Superintendency of Industry and Commerce (SIC), the entity in charge of recognizing PDOs; INVIMA, the entity responsible for monitoring compliance with sanitary standards for processed foods, and the delegated entities of the administration of PDOs. The latter, when exercising control over PDOs, finds products whose current sanitary registration name conflicts with or is similar or equal to that of a PDO, but, due to a lack of sanctioning power, the delegated entity cannot enforce correct use of the PDO. In addition, producers prefer to comply with the sanitary standard than with the PDO usage regulation. The previous situation is just an illustration of the impact of the lack of interinstitutional coordination on good governance and the efficient operation of the delegated entities of the PDOs in the country. This shows that the delegated entities of the PDOs will be limited in their control and observance tasks as long as there is no more support from public institutions, in an orderly and coordinated manner. Therefore, producers have been forced to juggle the guidelines of the PDO usage regulation and sanitary standards, among others.
