Firewood and chips consumption is the highest (around 56.1% rural households) in India’s largest populated state, Uttar Pradesh (UP), followed by dung cake (33.4% household size—Hhsize). This chapter highlights the socio-economic and demographic factors associated with firewood and chips consumption decision of rural households in UP. Family size, social caste and female-headed households are the most significant determining factors of firewood and chips selection and consumption, but their effects are in opposite direction. Female-headed households reduce firewood and chips consumption as well as their choice decisions; 69.3% of schedule tribes (ST) households consume firewood and chips, and it declines with social caste ladder.
