Nutritional status is intimately related to health in patients with cerebral palsy. There may be numerous difficulties, including poor oromotor function, dysphagia, gastroesophageal reflux, reduced gastrointestinal motility, intestinal malabsorption, or constipation, all of which might interfere with oral feeding. Feeding tubes are commonly used as an alternative or supplement to oral feeding. It can be difficult to assess the nutritional status of individuals with cerebral palsy, and each nutritional intervention needs to be individualized and followed closely to ensure that the patient receives proper nutritional support. The best nutritional management is accomplished through an active partnership between the patient, family, and care team.
