Epilepsy is a common comorbid condition occurring in patients with cerebral palsy. Clinical features of seizures experienced will depend on the location, extent, and aetiology of the structural lesion causing the cerebral palsy. Physiologic and psychological non-epileptic episodes should also be considered as potential causes of paroxysmal events. Once a diagnosis of epilepsy is established, the goal of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments is to prevent seizures without producing toxicities or intolerable adverse effects. If medical treatments are unable to secure seizure freedom for a patient, there are several surgical and even some non-surgical options available to assist in reducing the seizure burden.
