This chapter describes computed tomography (CT) for medical imaging applications under the aspect of the emerging photon-counting technology. The main principles of a photon-counting detector are explained with emphasis on the main requirements for medical imaging. The latest design of a photon-counting detector development at ams OSRAM is presented, discussing both assembly- and circuit-level aspects. This design achieves a maximum output count rate of 15 Mcps at an average input-referred noise level of 300 electrons over the whole pixel array.

摘要

This chapter describes computed tomography (CT) for medical imaging applications under the aspect of the emerging photon-counting technology. The main principles of a photon-counting detector are explained with emphasis on the main requirements for medical imaging. The latest design of a photon-counting detector development at ams OSRAM is presented, discussing both assembly- and circuit-level aspects. This design achieves a maximum output count rate of 15 Mcps at an average input-referred noise level of 300 electrons over the whole pixel array.
