Flow-Induced Motion Investigation on Novel SPAR Wind Floater on Damping Plate Configurations
摘要
One of the worst shortcomings of the SPAR sub-structure is excessive pitch motion during operating conditions. This condition can reduce wind energy harvesting performance. Vertical plate technology is one of the solutions for minimizing pitch motion. A numerical study is adopted using k-ω SST to investigate the hydrodynamic performance comparison between base SPAR and three vertical plates (3VP), four vertical plates (4VP), and five vertical plates (5VP). The results show that the number of vertical plates is also inversely proportional to the drag coefficient Cd. In other respects, the vertical plate configuration is directly related to the lift coefficient Cl. Therefore, the angle created between vertical plates, such as 3VP, 4VP, and 5VP, is meaningful. Moreover, the lift-drag ratio K is inversely proportional to the horizontal and vertical motions. Only the case of Re = 109 accepted the most outstanding values, vorticity, and pressure patterns, compared to other cases. Finally, the 5VP model is a reference for mitigating the hydrodynamic aspects effectively compared to other models.
