Thermodynamic and Kinetic Aspects of the Glass Transition

Understanding the nature of the glass transition is still a major challenge in physics as well as in materials science. In this chapter, we describe some general concepts and definitions connected to the phenomenology of the glass transition. Some examples of studies of the glass transition in bulk metallic glasses are given in the following chapter.
