Impact of Perceived Social Support and Resilience on Academic Stress Among Indian Migrant Students
摘要
Students migrate to new cities, away from their native social support networks to gain college education and consequently have better economic opportunities. This process of migration is evidenced to be a source of a great deal of stress. One of the most fundamental sources of stress for young adult migrant students is coping with a new academic system. The present research study aimed to investigate the relationship and impact of social support and resilience on academic stress faced by Indian migrant students. The research included 229 participants and data was collected through purposive sampling using 3 scales namely, Interpersonal support evaluation list, Nicholson McBride Resilience questionnaire, and Perceptions of Academic Stress Scale. Pearson Correlation and linear regression were the tools for analysis on SPSS (Ver. 21). The findings suggested that while there was no correlation and impact between social support and academic stress, there was however a strong positive correlation and impact of resilience on lowering academic stress.
