Partner selection is an essential matter in the life of every person, as it can lead to family conflicts such as arguments, abuse, and divorce if done without considering the criteria of compatibility (kafa’ah). Islam places religious criteria as one of the vital criteria in partner selection, based on the assumption that someone who understands the teachings of Islam in marriage will be able to fulfill their responsibilities as a husband or wife. Therefore, this study was conducted to analyze the perception of the Muslim community in Malaysia regarding the practice of partner selection based on religious criteria that can ensure family wellbeing. This study used a quantitative approach with a survey research design. The questionnaire was the instrument used in data collection. A total of 381 respondents were selected for this study through simple sampling. Data were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS 28.0) and presented in the form of descriptive statistics, including percentages, frequencies, mean scores, and standard deviations. The results of the study found that all items related to the practice of partner selection from a religious aspect recorded high mean scores, ranging from 4.20 to 4.90. This study showed that respondents considered religious criteria as an important aspect in the practice of partner selection. A person's religious attitude is not only a major criterion in the Islamic marriage institution but also an important foundation for establishing a harmonious family.
