Pseudomonas sp., a Powerful Tool for Degradation of Toxic Dyes in Wastewater

Pseudomonas sp. is a gram-negative rod-shaped bacteria. It has long been known to play a very impactful and vital role in the degradation of various pollutants, viz xenobiotics, heavy metals, pesticides, hydrocarbon compounds, toxic dyes, etc., present in soil and wastewater. Although there is literature available on this aspect, it is the need of the time to update it. The present review focuses on the degradation of toxic dyes by Pseudomonas sp. from wastewater, along with the mechanisms involved in it. The use of chemical approaches for the degradation of toxic dyes in wastewater is costly, causes pollution, and is slow. The biological approach, i.e., using Pseudomonas sp. to degrade toxic dyes in wastewater, is significant because it is eco-friendly, economical, and fast.
