With the advancement of technology, a lot of progress has been achieved to expedite humans for accomplishing their tasks on online mode. The taking of online sessions, classes or meetings is one of such tasks and so is the online management of attendance. Keeping this need in mind, the paper puts forward an attendance management system that uses face recognition as a component of computer vision technique. This system is proposed for educational institutions to enhance and upgrade the current attendance system into a more effective and efficient one. A face recognition system is utilized as a tool to maintain the record of attendance because the human face can be used as one of those natural traits that can identify an individual uniquely. The uniqueness of the proposed technique is that a face database is created to pump the data into the recognizer algorithm. Then, while taking attendance the faces will be compared with those stored in the database and if an individual is identified, its attendance will be marked automatically. Also, the information will be saved into an excel sheet to make it efficient, robust and accurate. Moreover, the record of the attendance taken here would be sent to the organizer along with the login and logout details of each attendee which makes it truly transparent and efficient enough to analyze and evaluate. Thus, the objective of this paper is to present a technique which could present an upgradation of existing attendance management systems by removing the ambiguities.
