This research delves into the burgeoning impact of Generative Artificial Intelligence (AI) within the design domain, spotlighting its transformative influence on architecture, graphic arts, product design, fashion, and sustainable practices. By deploying qualitative analysis across a spectrum of case studies, this paper critically examines generative AI's dual role as both a facilitator of creativity and efficiency and a harbinger of complex ethical and operational challenges. Central to our inquiry is how generative AI transcends traditional design paradigms, fostering novel concepts, enhancing user-centric and eco-conscious design methodologies, and streamlining production processes. Nevertheless, this evolution is not devoid of obstacles. The integration of AI necessitates a recalibration of designer skill sets towards digital fluency and AI literacy, confronting the educational sector with a need for curriculum adaptation. Simultaneously, ethical dilemmas—spanning data bias, intellectual property rights, and the balance between human creativity and automated precision—emerge as critical considerations. Through methodical investigation, the paper reveals generative AI's potential to significantly augment human creativity while reshaping design education and practice. It also highlights the urgency for ethical frameworks and industry-wide standards to mitigate the risks associated with AI's ascendancy in design. Envisioning a future where AI acts as a collaborative force in the creative process, this study underscores the imperative for ongoing research and dialogue to navigate the multifaceted landscape of AI-enhanced design.
