Implementation of the Semantic Data Model for Energy Management in Smart Buildings

This paper presents the development and implementation of a semantic data model within the HESTIA project, aimed at enhancing interoperability in smart-grid systems across European residential communities. We discuss the challenges of data integration and connectivity in smart grids and how the semantic model addresses these issues. Our methodology includes the step-by-step creation process of an ontology, as well as the design and application of an accompanying API. We evaluate our approach by querying the semantic model directly and through the API and compare the results by complexity and across two different scales of data. The findings demonstrate improvements in data interoperability and efficient management of smart-grid systems, contributing to the broader goal of sustainable and efficient energy use in residential communities.
