Understanding Artificial Intelligence in Education

This chapter considers artificial intelligence (AI) in education, reviewing the scope and impact of current applications on students, teachers, educational leaders, parents, and the public. The chapter covers the major users of AI in education and how these groups of people interact with the applications in school settings. The chapter also covers the general benefits (increased motivation, personalization, timely feedback, and time savings) and harms (equal access, overdependence, perpetuating bias, privacy violations, fictitious data, and deepfakes) of using AI in schools.
