Introduction

Conformal field theories are of central importance in modern theoretical physics, finding applications across various fields ranging from high-energy to condensed-matter physics. The investigation of conformal defects has recently emerged as a focal point, yielding a wealth of new insights and discoveries. In this chapter, we present an introduction to the themes that motivate the research presented in this thesis.
