Assessment of Non-researcher-Generated Data Within the Framework of Heritage Attributes Insights and Challenges

In an era where historic urban landscapes are increasingly influenced by mass and online media, understanding the dynamics of non-researcher-generated data within heritage assessment is paramount. This paper explores the intersection of heritage-related data with non-researcher-generated data in the context of the colonial heritage of Tunis. It addresses two primary research inquiries: evaluating how researchers handle input from non-researchers and exploring the challenges associated with such data. The study employs theoretical frameworks to distinguish between crowdsourced and non-researcher-generated data within the context of the historic urban landscape. Through a workshop format, the perspectives of researchers on non-researcher-generated data are examined, revealing intriguing patterns such as a preference for intangible attributes and text-only formats. The paper discusses the challenges inherent in assessing non-researcher-generated data while proposing practical solutions to address these challenges, aiming to enhance the effectiveness and accuracy of data assessment procedures. It underscores the significance of delineating between participatory principles and digital methods when analysing existing data and the links of such analysis with co-production of knowledge related to heritage. The paper contributes to understanding heritage assessment within the colonial heritage of Tunis and suggests avenues for further research and practical considerations in the field.
