Research Methods of the Impact of AI on Elections – Systematic Review

The paper provides an overview of the research methods used for examining AI’s influence on elections and political processes. In the last few years, a democracy crisis has been observed in many countries in parallel with dynamic AI progress. The author conducted a systematic literature review using the PRISMA method on 18 papers published in the years 2019–2023 from Scopus. The subject of AI and elections is often presented in the context of fake news. There is an alarming research gap in conducting empirical studies on the impact of artificial intelligence on elections. This paper establishes a methodological foundation for further academic inquiry.
