Climate Finance Flow in Bangladesh: Challenges and Opportunities

This chapter examines the complex landscape of climate finance in Bangladesh, a country heavily affected by climate change. Despite contributing very little to global greenhouse gas emissions, Bangladesh faces significant challenges due to financial constraints and high vulnerability to climate-related disasters. The chapter provides a detailed overview of the current state of climate finance in Bangladesh and underscores the urgent need for increased financial resources to address the escalating climate threats. It reviews both global and national laws and systems governing climate finance and evaluates the effectiveness of international agreements, such as the Paris Agreement, in providing Least Developed Countries (LDCs) with the necessary resources. Additionally, the chapter discusses the efforts of the Bangladeshi government to mitigate and adapt to climate change, highlighting the substantial gaps in financial and technical support. By exploring these challenges and opportunities, the chapter emphasizes the critical need for enhanced financial assistance to help Bangladesh reduce its vulnerability and strive for a sustainable future.
