Asthma in the Pediatric Patient
摘要
Asthma is a chronic and heterogeneous respiratory disease characterized by chronic airway inflammation, resulting in reversible respiratory symptoms, such as wheezing, shortness of breath, chest tightness, cough, and variable expiratory airflow limitation. Asthma affects 1–18% of the global population. Despite the recent advances in diagnostic and therapeutic strategies, asthma still poses a substantial health and socioeconomic burden, in particular in its uncontrolled and severe forms. To improve outcomes, accurate management and diagnosis are crucial, as well as follow-up, monitoring of lung function and inflammation, education, and supported self-management advice.
