In this chapter, we explore the concept of a system as a basis for modelling and programming. We start by considering the relation of systems to reality and how our view of reality shapes the way we understand systems in Sect. 2.1. In this context, we consider the worldview and the purpose of looking at reality. Then we continue with a definition of a system and how systems are used in Sect. 2.3, distinguishing mental, physical and digital systems. Finally, in Sect. 2.2, we discuss how systems can be created using system descriptions. We use descriptions for communication and discuss how descriptions prescribe systems.

摘要

In this chapter, we explore the concept of a system as a basis for modelling and programming. We start by considering the relation of systems to reality and how our view of reality shapes the way we understand systems in Sect. 2.1. In this context, we consider the worldview and the purpose of looking at reality. Then we continue with a definition of a system and how systems are used in Sect. 2.3, distinguishing mental, physical and digital systems. Finally, in Sect. 2.2, we discuss how systems can be created using system descriptions. We use descriptions for communication and discuss how descriptions prescribe systems.
