“They Move!” New Ways of Engaging Rock Art with Visitors at the Coa Museum, Portugal
摘要
Inaugurated in 2010, the Coa Museum is the entryway to the Coa Valley Archaeological Park. A visit to Coa’s rock art sites is an authentic, irreplaceable experience that, beyond a captivating guide delivering science-based knowledge to visitors on the art and its natural and cultural context, does not need ‘artifices’ to be enjoyed. The Museum’s exhibition program, conceived as a complement to a visit to the park, summarizes the scientific information collected over the last decades at the Coa Valley and highlights the most relevant rock imagery from an area that extends over 200 km2. A decade after the museum’s inauguration, the decision was made to update the original contents and displays by taking advantage of XR devices that had become available. The updates added more captivating layers of interest for the enjoyment of visitors. This chapter presents, discusses, and muses on the digital renovations recently implemented in the permanent exhibition of the Coa Museum.
