The ECtHR and the Constitutional Courts of Consolidated Western Democracies

The present Chapter deals with the case law of the ECtHR citing the constitutional courts of Western Europe. Those are essentially all the constitutional courts of Member States that accessed the Council of Europe before the USSR dissolution in 1991. The Chapter’s main objective is to provide an assessment of the ECtHR relationship with each national constitutional court. Each paragraph is  organised into two parts. The first presents the main features of the national constitutional justice system and the second contains an analysis of the most significant judgments as well as an overall assessment of the relationship. Most paragraphs also contains graphs and charts illustrating the most salient quantitative data for each constitutional jurisdiction.
