This chapter examines the protection of functional and visually appealing Indigenous objects also understood as traditional craft that are hand-manufactured by Indigenous techniques consisting of Indigenous materials such as wood, leather, cotton, glass, solid minerals such as gold and silver, cloth, and other naturally occurring products. The fact that the craft sector depends on local resources; supports small scale businesses, use of traditional technology is the context on which the chapter explores whether protection or inspiration of Indigenous designs is appropriate for African countries.
