This book addresses the protection of Indigenous knowledge (IK) in Africa as part of Indigenous property in African communities and states that are the sum of all material and immaterial objects of value that sustain African Indigenous communities. Accordingly, the book is organised around domains of Indigenous knowledge such as Indigenous heritage; Indigenous music; Indigenous audio-visual works; Indigenous signs, terms and expressions; Indigenous literary works; associated scientific and technical Indigenous knowledge (aSTIK); and Indigenous designs. In addition, a legal pluralistic account; an intellectual property rights framework and a cultural narrative of Indigenous knowledge in African states, are used to bring fresh, interdisciplinary and contextual understanding in this book.
