Proposal for a Protective Structure for the Octagonal Palace in Niš Fortress

The research focuses on the octagonal palace, a part of the cultural heritage located within the Niš Fortress in Serbia. As one of the most significant and representative structures of late antique Naisus, the octagonal palace is an integral part of the city’s history but is simultaneously exposed to various factors of deterioration. The research context arises from the need to find an innovative solution for the protection and preservation of this cultural heritage, with a specific emphasis on the application of geometry in the design of the protective structure. The objective is to discover a sustainable solution that not only shields the octagonal palace from further decay but also contributes to the aesthetics and overall ambiance of the Niš Fortress. Through a geometric approach in construction, the research will explore how form and structure can be pivotal factors in achieving a harmonious symbiosis between modern protection and historical heritage.
