Evaluation Technique for Cubism – “Kidori”, the Sculpting Method, and the System of “Solid Material”

  • Yoshizumi Fukue

摘要

This research discusses the Japanese modern sculptor Tsuruzo ISHII’s woodwork masterpieces “Shimazaki Toson” (Toson-zo (1), Toson-zo (2)) from a technical point of view, and how this research found mechanisms of Cubism in the method of Tsuruzo’s work on “Kidori”. Evaluation of this method provides a considerable system of sculpture that demonstrates the essential meaning of solids. In a rare case in art history, many of the wood pieces that were removed in the creation of his work were kept for later evaluation of procedure. To analyze the procedure, 3D capture technology and 3D digitization techniques were applied to the works and the remaining wood pieces. For the analysis of the method, this research built a fixed ten-Viewpoint Image 3D Animation System of the making procedure. From this analysis, the coincidence of solids and Cubist artworks can be demonstrated as a phenomenon of moving or auto’ morphological appositional growth of form.
