Navigating Security Landscapes: The Role of Media Leadership in Addressing Drug Challenges in Oman: A Research Framework

The rapid evolution of economic, social, political, and security landscapes has significantly shaped individual behaviors both locally and globally. This impact has been further magnified by the information and communication technology revolution, highlighting the crucial role of effective media in addressing challenges and mitigating negative phenomena. Oman, as an integral part of the international community, holds a pivotal position in collaborative efforts with other nations, emphasizing the vital role of security media in guiding individual behaviors and enhancing their capacity to tackle diverse security challenges. This study aims to propose a research framework for examining the influence of strategic leadership within security media on advancing community security, with a specific focus on issues related to drugs and psychedelics. Its objective is to elucidate how strategic direction, media vision, change management, decision-making processes, motivation, and empowerment factors impact community security aspects, encompassing drug-related crimes, legal frameworks, educational empowerment, and citizenship. Employing a descriptive correlational methodology, the research integrates both quantitative and qualitative methodologies. It includes surveys targeted at Oman's populace and interviews with key decision-makers in security media, such as representatives from the Royal Oman Police, the General Directorate of Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Control, the National Committee for Drug and Psychotropic Substances, and the Public Prosecution for Drug and Human Trafficking Cases. Additionally, in-depth interviews with strategic decision-makers in security media in Oman are conducted. Based on the study's findings, the researcher will propose a series of recommendations and initiatives aimed at enhancing the role of security media in promoting community security, particularly in combating drugs and psychedelics.
